Re: S4 receive library
The app note though, assumes that I'm using the windows software which I don't want to do (because I'm not running windows). That is, though, the operation I'm trying to perform. Just using it from the keyboard, as with the normal RCVE operation. I'm following the instructions on page 76 of the manu...

Charging from a bench supply
I am charging the S4 from a bench supply (cautiously, as advised).
It charges OK, but the INFO function says CHARGER DISCONNECTED OR SUPPLY OFF
Is this normal when the proper AC adapter isn't used ? If so, what does it take to detect a connected charger ?

When I run it, I get a messages RESTRICT LOAD ON and prompts NO LOAD > FFFFFF NO LOAD < 000000 I can only change the first 2 digits of these values. These aren't described in the S4 man...

Re: Eprom and eeprom library?
This thread is 9 years old (!) so I'm coming to it a bit late, but are older libraries still available ? The link is dead but the pre-split library 2.93 sounds like a convenience, even if it doesn't support some later devices. I suspect that many people using an S4 rather than a more modern programm...

Re: Burnt diodes
Thanks. I have a second hand device that came with no charger so it's possible it's been used with the wrong one. I noticed IanJ's unit also showed some overheating in this area. The Nicads seem in surprisingly good condition, though - flat when I received it and I charged them externally as I didn'...

Burnt diodes
It seems that after moderate use, the programmer PCB gets a bit browned near the AC power socket. This is due to the bridge rectifier diodes on the top (other) side of the board, which in my case have been getting hot enough to roughen the solder joints. I guess they've survived for quite a few year...
