I am new to programming EEproms, I have a 29c020 bios which is stuck and won't boot the PC. The only thing I can't seem to figure out is which way the ZIF socket is oriented, I am thinking that pin 1 should be next to the handle or pin 1 should be the upper left, which is right?

Pin 1 of the S4 ZIF is located at the top left. However all devices should be inserted in the lower part of the socket. A 32 pin device will take up the whole socket but a 28pin device would be placed toward the bottom with 4 pins free above it. When a device is selected the programming voltage VPP is remapped to the same location as pin one of the chip(28pin)
I hope this makes sense.
