Hello, can anyone put me back on track,I am new to Promming.
My PC Bios is shot and with an S4 I need to reload the flash data file. The Dataman library for the Bios chip: V29C5100T has been loaded and from a PC the Bios image file: A7V8xx3.awd , an award bios update size: 256K (262,144bytes) has been uploaded at 00000,3FFFF.
When I burn the eeprom, a failure message occures indicating the address and that the ROM/RAM contents are not consistent. Originally I thought I was using the incorrect file format so I changed from ASCII to Binary, I then tried with remaining formats.
When I used a hex editor and checked the file contents on the PC and then compared sections in the RAM i.e DU 01000,f0 I noticed that some addresses had other values than what was shown in the Hex editor, these were the values that changed when in the Hex editor I toggled between ANSI <-> OEM (Windows <-> Dos char. set).
One question I have since I've gone through the file format collection (Intel,Tex, Motarola, Ascii & bin) and not been able to burn the eeprom are there other file formats which are not supported by the S4? since I do not image this to be the case, this brings me to the orriginal call, can anybody tell me what mistake I am making?

Hi,
I'm afraid I cannot find V29C5100T in Dataman S4 library. Who is the vendor? Is the device name correct? Please, let me know.
This problem can be caused by the Sector Protect feature of the chip. Some chips feature irreversible Sector Protection. If this is the case it is necessary to buy a new chip or to use an equivalent replacement.

Hi,
For now you can try the following - press FUNC
BURN to erase the chip (press ENTER after it). Then check if the device is blank. If yes then proceed with programming, if not, then the Boot Block is locked and I currently cannot help. If I am able to get samples it will be possible to unlock that sector.
I will post any future developments here.

Sorry, I did not recheck the device number as I wrote the message, the device is a V29C51002T from Mosel Vitalic

Hello Dataman,
same problem: Bios shot.
Try to erase the EEPROM SyncMOS F29C51002T with S4 Dataman and FUNC BURN.
Problem: After entering command and pressing return, Dataman does nothing ... or seems to do nothing. Only ESC can leave this mode ... (after half'n hour)
What's wrong ? Perhaps EEPROM totaly damaged ? All read access actions are working.
I use the Dataman S4 F114 PROM:
Gives me the Info at PROM Key:
Mosel V. 29C51002T
5V Burn
Data Polling
Alg 30, Ref 1201
dires2

Re: Q about PC Bios flashing
Hi,
I can't find the datasheet. But I think that the device has a sector protection feature. And probably, one of those sectors are locked on your chip. I am not sure if S4 can unlock those sectors. It is not the problem of the software but the hardware which is a limitation of the S4 - I think Vpp on CEn is required. S4 cannot apply high voltage to that pin.
I will post again here if I discover differently.
