SST 28SF040A - Won't program

I seem to be having a problem programming SST 28SF040A EEPROMS on the S4. I have tried many times, and on different S4 programmers. The S4 behaves in the sme way as it would if no device was present. 28SF040 devices program OK but not the A version)
I have Lib v2.86 and have tried earlier libs.
Any Ideas?

Dear John,

The SST 28sf040a device MUST be ersased on S4 prior to programming it.
